News - Tips for Selling More Bathroom Accessories Archive

Monday, December 10th 2012

Mention the words 'bathroom accessories' and I'm sure you often say "we need to sell more of them".

It's ironic that a product group that is often viewed as a 'finishing touch', an 'afterthought', an 'additional sale' and in some cases I have come across, 'hassle' is the second largest sector of the bathroom products market after baths and sanitaryware and beating brassware.

Whichever way you look at it, customers are buying their bathroom accessories from somewhere, so they might as well buy them from you. By simply selling these you can easily add at least 10% to your turnover.

Do you want to know how to massively increase your sales of bathroom accessories?

Well, here are my top six suggestions to help you succeed in this market.

1. Dedicated Bathroom Accessory Area - Creating even a small space for a selection of boards and perhaps a table or shelving for freestanding items will focus your clients mind to that area and show them they are part of your overall offering. From our experience, we've found that many people prefer to select their accessories from boards, as they find it much easier to compare and choose - take a look at how department stores display their products.

2. Offer Choice -One big advantage you have over Sheds, Department Stores and even the Internet is that you're not limited to selling just what you have on display. You can offer choice and source most items people ask for.

3. User-Friendly Brochures -It can be very tiring for your client to choose their bathroom, so once they've chosen their main products and don't want to think bout the finishing touches give them a priced brochure to take home - they can choose their accessories from the comfort of their own home. Another great reason to offer brochures is that it frees your time. I've been told many times that selling accessories can take the same amount of time as selling a complete suite. Let the brochures do the talking.

4. Add A Toilet Roll Holder To Every Quote - Include a toilet roll holder on every quote you prepare and make a note of what happens. One item won't make much difference to the total cost. How many clients will ask you to remove it form the quote - probably less than you think.

5. Discount Vouchers/Money Off Coupons - Once a client has ordered a bathroom and left your showroom without ordering their accessories, there is less likelihood of them coming back and buying them from you. They'll probably head to a department store, shed and now more often than not, will buy online. To encourage your clients to come back to you to buy their accessories, offer them a voucher at the same times as you provide them with their main quote or when they've placed the order for their bathroom.

6. Stock A Small Selection of Bathroom Essentials -Make the most of impulse sales and don't lose out to department stores and sheds. What are the items you most frequently get asked for? Stocking a complementary range of high quality but affordable toilet roll holders, toilet brushes and shower baskets will add straight to your bottom line.

Why not start using some of these tips today and see how they impact yours sales and profits.
