KORC.. UKs 1st recycled kitchen
In 2005, we created K.O.R.C: The UKs first kitchen to be made from genuinely recycled content materials as seen here in our showroom. Its reason to be is to divert kitchen household waste away from landfill and be recycled back into useful products that we can all use in our homes. With recent developments in recycled materials, we have been able to make our original concept even better and the new KORC kitchen specification is as follows:
Doors:
Now made from a 100% recycled mix of Yoghurt Pots and Fridge Liners. The addition of the fridge material is beneficial to the board in 2 ways: one, it improves the surface flatness and two, the material is creamier and more even in colour. This improvement has been made possible by the recent gained ability to successfully remove the expanded foam from the back of the fridge linings.
Cabinets:
Manufactured in rigid form from the new Sonae Urban Chic range of 18mm chipboard that has a staggering 98% recycled content coming largely from post consumer wood waste collected from council waste sites. This new process allows us to offer the same as the ECO2 where you can have many of the complex internal fitments such as: carousels, pull out larders, tambour doors etc. prefitted in the factory making installation simpler and quicker.
We have 4 Eco ranges available: EcoSelect, budget entry level, self plan kitchens for developers, builders, DIYers etc.
Eco2, higher spec level, more colour choices, soft close everything, fully bespokeable units.
KORC, the pioneer of the breed, the original kitchen of recycled content.
Eco Elite, the masterpiece of truly creative bespoke sustainable kitchens
We can't do them all justice by short descriptions written here, do please check out our website for a fuller picture, you won't be disappointed.
Worktops:
As our original concept, the tops are still made from the Charcoal board ( aka coffee cup) 100% recycled material made from vending machine coffee cups and a small mix of electronic component boards contributing to the speckle finish.
Tiling:
We have now tiled our display up with recycled content tiles coming from the only UK based manufacturer currently doing this. Made in Stoke, the tiles have a recycled content of between 25 and 38 percent using scrap material from the pottery and ceramic industry in their local area. See our Tiles of Recycled Content page for more details.
Lighting:
All our lighting is based on compact flourescent and hi output LED's ranging from 1.8w LED's to 13watt CFL lamps. We have been using low energy lighting for 6 years now and products are developing all the time
